Tax Clinic

BUSU's free tax clinic appointments are currently closed for the season. The are scheduled to reopen in February 2025 but subject to change.

BUSU runs a volunteer-based tax clinic as part of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Volunteers are trained through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) - a great addition to your resume for future accountants!

Please review the Free Tax Clinic website for details about how these clinics operate.

Step by step sign up:

1. Sign up for your individual income tax submission session below. Fill out all the details. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

2. Wait for a tax clinic volunteer to contact you. Submissions are reviewed twice a week and distributed based on the schedule of the volunteers. Submissions are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

*Please do not submit your request for support multiple times. If you have received an email confirming your request, you will be contacted when a volunteer is available. Please check your spam or junk folder for the confirmation email.

3. Prepare your income tax documents.

For those who are signed up and have been contacted by the organizer, here is what you will need:
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Government-issued identification
  • T2202A or T2202 - Tuition and Enrolment Certificate, issued by Brock University
  • Rent payment receipts, issued by your landlord or tenant management team
  • T4 or T4a slips

4. Attend your arranged meeting with the volunteer and learn about submitting your income tax!

Special notes:

  • All documents that are shared with volunteers are kept confidentially and are not saved for use other than income tax submission
  • All volunteers have experience with income tax and/or are training to become accountants

*If you are self-employed, please contact a Certified Professional Accountant to assist with your 2024 income tax submissions
