Brock Learners Association aims to foster collaborative learning through the collective efforts of all our members. Students from all departments and programs are welcome to join and encouraged to contribute their unique knowledge and insights to this inclusive and ever-growing community, which is committed to life-long learning and effective studying.
Study Techniques/Note-Taking:
The club will help students explore study techniques such as MindMapping and Pomodoro and offer guidance into effective note-taking using tools like Goodnotes, Notion, Obsidian, and many more. Additionally, students will also learn how to implement citation managers such as EndNote to help with assignments. Overall, we aim to introduce these tools to help propel your studies to the next level.
Spaced Repetition and Active Recall:
A large focus of our club is spaced repetition, which has been scientifically proven to improve memory recall. Students will learn how to use ANKI, an open-source active recall flashcard tool designed to improve study quality and prevent last-minute cramming. Alternatives like Quizlet and RemNote will also be featured.
Digital Media:
Students can learn to self-host servers and connect several devices for backups, data transfers, and files. This allows for the simple transmission of large-scale information between devices. The data can include notes, media streaming, and school applications. Students can also set up group servers to share files and large folders seamlessly.
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning:
In the current rapidly evolving technological landscape, machine learning and A.I. have been at the forefront and can become useful when used correctly. From speech-to-text automation using Whisper and large language models like ChatGPT, to training datasets for personal applications, the Brock Learners Association provides a space where students can navigate these technologies together to make their lives easier while ensuring their ethical and responsible implementation.
