VPSS Monthly Update March 2025

Wellness Week

Wellness Week took place last week, offering a range of engaging events aimed at promoting student well-being. The Puppy Social was held at Kenmore Lounge on Monday, March 4th, with nearly 300 students in attendance. Additionally, a Free Poutine event, originally scheduled for Election Week, was rescheduled and took place on the same day.

On Unwind Wednesday (March 6th), students enjoyed a free drop-in event featuring a variety of recreational activities. The event included pool tables, ping pong tables, arcade racing games, and an air hockey table. Our vendor, We Got Game, organized a friendly video game competition, adding to the excitement. A free outdoor escape room was also available, which became a crowd favorite.

A special thank you goes to Celyn, the street team, and marketing for their hard work in making Wellness Week a success.

Upcoming Events

On March 12th, students can enjoy a Free Nacho Bar. Another highly anticipated event is Pizza with Politicians, a collaboration with Mark, the VPEA. This event, which was also held last year, provides students with the opportunity to engage with MPs, Mayors, and MPPs.

Pride Week, taking place from March 17th to March 21st, will feature a Drag Show and a Pasta Bar, in collaboration with Pride Niagara and the Brock Pride Club. Additionally, we will be hosting Last Call at Isaac’s, taking place on March 27th, will be one last goodbye to Isaac’s before construction begins.

Clubs

The Clubs Summit was a major success. Along with the sessions hosted by Brock, we were able to cover topics that new club executives would need to know. We were also able to focus on various methods of raising funds such as ticket sales and fundraising, in addition to the funding BUSU provides to clubs. Celyn, our Events Manager, also had a session on how to plan and execute events.

Club Ratification for new and existing clubs began on March 3rd and will run until March 23rd. Additionally, clubs can now nominate themselves for the Clubs Year-End Dinner Awards. The Clubs Advisory Council (CAC) met last week and finalized the award categories.

New awards have been introduced to recognize different pillars of club activities, including the Community Impact Award, Diversity and Inclusion Award, Religious and Faith Award, Academic/Well-Being Award, and General Interest/Arts Award. The Social Media Engagement Award has been rebranded as the Best Marketing Award.

Moreover, the Rising Star Award and Best New Club Award have been merged into a single category. The Club Member of the Year and Club Executive of the Year awards have been removed.
