VPEA Monthly Update February 2025

Provincial Elections:

With the elections being called, we wanted to ensure that students had an opportunity to engage with local candidates. To facilitate this, we have organized an Election Tabling Event on February 24th from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM, where 6-8 candidates running in the Niagara region will be on campus to meet and speak with students. This initiative aims to encourage student voter engagement and provide a platform for political discourse within the university community.

Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA)

I am currently working on the Tech-Enabled Learning Policy Paper alongside our policy writer, Isabella, which will be presented at OUSA’s Spring General Assembly (GA) on March 6th. This paper addresses key issues related to technology in education and aims to shape advocacy efforts at the provincial level.

In preparation for GA, delegate training has been scheduled, and I will be kicking off these sessions this week to ensure our team is well-prepared for policy discussions and decision-making.

Pizza with Politicians Event

We are excited to host the Pizza with Politicians event on March 13th, an initiative designed to foster direct conversations between students and elected officials in an informal setting. So far, seven politicians have confirmed their attendance, and we are awaiting a few more confirmations. All logistics are being finalized to ensure a smooth and engaging event.

A huge thank you to Shinaya Peiris (VPSS), Celyn Talaue (Events Manager), and the Marketing Team for their hard work and dedication in making these events possible. Their efforts in organizing and promoting these initiatives have been invaluable.
