VPUA Monthly Update November 2024

U-Pass Contract with NRT

As mentioned in my previous report, we had been awaiting the NRT signing the new U-Pass agreement, which was passed at their most recent meeting and returned signed to us on November 21st. Very excited to have this agreement in effect for next fall, until April 2028.

Finances

All VISA statements, accounts payable and EFTs have been approved and complete on time. I will review the October VISA statements upon my return from OUSA's Student Advocacy Conference.

Brock Hiring Committees

The Vice-President Administration and Faculty Applied Health Science dean searches are on-going. These are confidential searches, but I will provide updates once I am able to do so, and hopeful for both searches that we will find amazing candidates.

Brock Strategic Plan

I was asked to speak on the speaker panel for the Brock Strategic Plan at the official launch on November 7th, with approximately 150+ people in attendance and another 200 joining the live stream, it was a wonderful kick off to an exciting future for this university.

VPUA Advisory Committee

We have had 3 meetings, and I have been able to receive lots of ideas and feedback regarding the building, as well as work that they would like to see pushed forward across the university. It’s been lovely to connect with such a range of students and to learn more about what they want from BUSU.

New Student Centre

We have had the opportunity to move onto room design sheets, diving deeper into what each room of the building will need, and I am very excited about the progress of this project. We are eager to be providing an update to the Brock Board of Trustees on December 4 and 5.

Brock Parking Update

Despite further advocacy on the concerns of free evening parking in Lot 2, Brock has decided against continuing this into the winter term. We have provided review and feedback of their communication plan to ensure students understand the change.

Open Education Resources Award and Conference

While I was not given the opportunity to attend in person, I would like to thank Dr. Rajiv Jhangiani, Brock’s Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning, for accepting the award and providing my remarks on my behalf.

OUSA GA

We had a wonderful time hosting 8 other OUSA schools for the 60th OUSA General Assembly here at Brock. Each member of the executive team has worked incredibly hard on this event and I believe it was a huge success, we got so much wonderful feedback from the other schools.

Huge thanks once again to the whole food and beverage team for all their support, and another big shout out to Celyn, Kayleigh and Jessie and their teams for all of their hard work and help!!

Meeting with the Provost

Anusha and I met with Brock’s new Provost, Arja Vainio-Mattila, on October 23rd and we are incredibly excited to begin more regular meetings with her.

OUSA SAC

I had the pleasure of joining Mark at OUSA’s Student Advocacy conference, from November 17 – 23, and as I am writing this while in Toronto, I will provide further details in my next report. As of right now I am very excited to join leaders from across the 9 OUSA member schools in advocating for addressing hate-motivated attacks, food insecurity, student housing and investing in post-secondary education with MPPs at Queens Park this week.
