VPUA Monthly Update February 2025

Elections ON Tabling
With the election being called, our team has been very busy. As the elections were called, we were reached out by Elections Ontario to table on campus, an opportunity for students to register as voters.  We saw over 500 students engage and register to vote. It was a fantastic turnout, and I’m proud of the enthusiasm and participation we witnessed from the student body.

Spring/Summer Transit Service Rates
We’ve been working on setting up the spring/summer transit service rates.

Due to an increase in spring and summer course offerings and changes to the academic calendar, we’re anticipating an increase in costs this year.

New Building Open Houses
We hosted two open houses for the new building, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

It was a great opportunity to answer questions and gather insights from students.

I’m looking forward to continuing our engagement through tabling after reading week once the election wraps up.

Student Self-Declared Absence Form
After about a year and a half of advocacy, the Student Medical Absence Form has been updated to the Student Self-Declared Absence Form.

This change was recently passed at Senate and explicitly includes mental health, food insecurity, and gender-based and sexual violence as valid reasons for students to use the form.

Additionally, students can now use the form more than once per term at their professor's discretion.

This is a significant step forward in supporting student well-being and accessibility.
