VPUA Monthly Update August 2024
Carleigh Charlton
The Universal Bus Pass is ready to be distributed to students starting September 2nd.
Carleigh has been coordinating with the President on the shift schedule for U-Pass tabling.
Additionally, Carleigh has collaborated with Jessie to ensure the opt-in/opt-out form for the U-Pass is ready and accessible on our website. The form has been tested by student staff and is all set.
The Senate is resuming this year. Carleigh is also working with Kayleigh to train and prepare the student senators as they begin attending their committee meetings.
Recently, we’ve heard that Brock Parking is making changes to evening parking, now charging $6 after 6 pm. This change was only mentioned on their website, with no further communication on social media, and BUSU was not informed in advance. We met with Mr. Ed Wall and Matthew Lauer (Manager of Parking Services) to discuss the next steps, as this decision is likely to be unpopular among students, especially given the current financial constraints.
Carleigh proposed that Brock Parking consider waiving parking fees for students during the week of Badger Fest, as most events occur in the evening, and we don’t want students to pay extra just to attend. Discussions are ongoing, and we’re hopeful for a positive outcome. Carleigh is closely monitoring the situation, and we will continue to advocate as we receive more student feedback.
